A collective team effort proved to be the difference in Lafayette Jeff’s Boys Basketball’s 83-74 victory over Marion at the IHSAA Marion Sectional.
Despite Marion’s Jalen Blackmon scoring 55 points, the Bronchos team effort led the squad to the 400th all-time postseason win in school history, which is an Indiana high school basketball record.
Against Marion, Brooks Barnhizer had 18 points in the first half and 27 in the game, while adding eight rebounds in a sectional victory on his birthday.
Jacob Collicott scored 19 points in 17 minutes of action, including 5-of-6 three pointers in a 5:34 stretch in the third quarter. In addition, Collicott had the task of guarding Blackmon the majority of the game before fouling out in the fourth quarter.
Armoni Williams scored seven of his nine points in the fourth quarter, while Ashton Beaver finished with 18 points, including 9-of-11 free throws down the stretch.
Brady Preston played 25 minutes off the bench with Collicott and Jahsiah Kirk-Williams in foul trouble, and matched his career highs with seven rebounds and three assists, while adding four points, including two crucial free throws with 1:29 remaining in the game.
